Cherisa’s Career Journey

Right after residency she started practicing family medicine and fell in love with women’s health. However, there were many systemic issues in the medicine field. When she started a family, she realized the lifestyle was no longer sustainable and made the decision to give up OB.

Initially, she worked part time with a company named Teledoc and enjoyed the benefits. Then, she realized that she can make it a full time practice with the help of her husband.

The Most Flexible Career for Physicians

She started working with 5-6 other telemedicine companies and eventually grew the numbers. After a year she had already doubled her income. Not only was she making more money, but she was working fewer hours with greater freedom and flexibility than ever before.

She received a lot of questions from other doctors on how did it and so started to create a curriculum about telemedicine.

Mindset Shifts For Career Success

Our education curriculum’s objective is to teach us how to be employees. We have to shift our perspective if we want to find success as an entrepreneur. If you are looking for flexible careers for physicians it’s important to start working on mindset. It’s not about the skillset, it’s about the mindset.

Having open curiosity and inquisitiveness is essential. Adopting a beginner’s mentality and a growth mindset are also crucial ingredients for success.

Designing a Flexible Career for Physicians

Everything is very different now that she is working in a more flexible career. She doesn’t need to get permission anymore to take care of her family. Her time is flexible now.

If one of her kids is sick she can rearrange her schedule to help take care of them. She can work from her beautiful home office or go to a coffee shop. She can decide to go away for the weekend last minute and has the flexibility to do that if desired.

She also began to have time and space to explore other interests, hobbies and self care.

I fell in love with personal growth work and it’s just transformed me and my mindset. There was no way I was reading those kinds of books while working in my former medical practice. There wasn’t capacity. If I had 10 extra minutes, I just wanted to sleep.
