When Your Self Care Routine Isn’t Cutting it

There’s a conundrum I see healthcare professionals getting trapped in. Feeling run down by the daily grind of life and then because they are so exhausted they lack the time and energy to do something about it. Essentially you are too burnt out to manage your burnout.

You are trying to “do the things” you are supposed to do to take care of yourself- like yoga, meditation, green juices, but it’s hard to find the time to consistently commit to your own self-care.

You are absolutely not alone. Way too many healthcare professionals these days are feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, burnt out and isolated, and we want to do something about that.

This is why Dr. Shivani Barto, Dr. Manuela Rodriguez and I have created the Alma Ser retreat, a week long immersive experience to nourish your soul being.

Listen in to this episode where you will learn all about:

  • The way attending a retreat can put you into a state of “click” where wellness becomes who you are instead of just another thing you need to cross off your list.
  • The intentional integration process that Shivani takes participants through, so that the retreat isn’t just a nice vacation, but something that will change the way you approach everyday life when you return home.

If you are feeling burnt out, trying to get on that self care train and want some support integrating wellness practices into your everyday life, listen to this episode and see how attending a retreat could be the answer you’ve been looking for!

The transformational power of retreats

Dr. Shivani described it as if imagine tensing every muscle in your body, feeling anxious, and trying to get through it. The deepest aspect of yourself, as well as everything else, can be connected to during retreats, it is allowing you to rediscover your life’s purpose, find and maintain your balance in the face of challenges and stressors that are beyond your control, and develop a wellness routine. After the retreat, you feel as though all your muscles have relaxed and you can finally let out a long breath. It will give you the feeling of being nurtured and being taken care of and allowing you to flourish.

Breaking free from being on autopilot

Dr. Shivani advised changing your routine. You can’t pour from an empty cup; at some point, you have to give back to yourself. An uncomfortable burnout will cost you a lot of things, including time, energy, and relationships. Shivani suggests spending your time at retreats rather than on vacation because the latter simply forces you to return to your old habits. Retreats will help you realize that to create a new pattern, you can redefine and test the bounds of your current one. And when you are in a group of other people and you’re able to relate to them on a really deep level, you’ll feel safe, nurtured, vulnerable, and inspired.

Immersive Retreat Experience

To create a healing experience, Shivani provides a complete, all-encompassing experience as the retreat host. Their program provides participants with empowerment and one-on-one coaching before the retreat to get to know them and their struggles. Additionally, the participant has access to the introduction to mindfulness on-demand course by her co-host, Manuella Rodriguez, who specializes in mindfulness-based stress reduction. To assist you in getting unstuck and making a transition that will last, they do follow-up calls in both groups and privately following the retreat. The retreat’s goal is to assist you in fully integrating all you’ve learned into your day-to-day activities.

Alma Ser Retreat

With the retreat being located in Portugal, Shivani decided for the title to have a Portuguese origin. ALMA means SOUL and SER means BEING. The retreat name is translated as Soul Being. As the retreat’s purpose is to deliver to their client a sense of coming back to themselves and being in touch with their sole being. It’s being connected to your younger self before the world tells you what you’re supposed to be like, We’re much more fulfilled with what we’re doing. And there’s a lot less resistance. Shivani wanted to create a place where people can reconnect and relax. Reconnecting with their sole being and intuition. Relaxing and letting out that long exhale and carrying it through their daily life-an everlasting vacation. At the end of the experience, they will feel empowered to be able to integrate what they learned in the retreat into their life.

Connection to the community

Dr. Shivani always makes sure that she has a very deep connection to the community, especially during the retreat. She emphasizes the importance of a healthy connection, which will greatly impact their healing process. To achieve that, she cultivates a community based on trust where everyone can be vulnerable around each other and be intentional about their goals during the retreat.

Retreat Intention

  1. Reconnecting with their soul being
  2. Exhale feeling “The Release”
  3. Carrying that exhaling feeling to their life

Who is this For

Women in healthcare who are curious about wellness and have tried practicing it in their own daily life and habits but not finding the immediate release that they’re looking for. This would help people with a base knowledge of what wellness tools are available but they want to level up.
